Winter is settling in and the weather is getting colder. Snow is on the horizon and so it is best to get all your protective gear out, if you haven’t done so already. Snow is wonderful to see when looking out of the window whilst curled up in front of the fire and equally great when playing in the snow with children. So make the most of the snow this year with this snow guide:
Protecting plants and veg
When the cold weather settles in it is time to protect your crops and plants. There are many ways in which you can do this, whether you chose to cover them with a fleece or shelter them with a polytunnel or cloche. If you are planting seeds, like onions it is best to keep them in a warm place away from harsh weather. A greenhouse is best type of protection for your seedlings.
Jobs for the drive way
- Use your garden Shovel to shovel all the snow around the corners of your driveway. This needs to be kept up over the course of the snowing season as it will quickly turn into ice and become extremely dangerous. Doing this sooner rather than later will make the job hassle free and can be completed in no time.
- Keep the snow off any outdoor lights to keep shinning brighter than the next door neighbour.
- Get outside and make a snowman with the family. You have all the snow in one place already, so all the snow you need is in easy grasp. Why not have a snowball fight while your there? You may have to put the car in the garage beforehand.
- Buy some salt to put over the ice when it forms on your driveway.
